If you watched the archery events at the Paris Olympics you may also be interested in the Paralympics archery  which takes place at Les Invalides between 29th August and 5th September.

The archers compete in three classes - W1, open compound, and open recurve.

The W1 classification is for the most impaired archers, i.e. those who may have an impairment in their legs and use a wheelchair. They may shoot either a compound or recurve bow and the two disciplines shoot the same competition.

The open classification is for those archers with an impairment in either the top or bottom halves of their body. Some use a wheelchair but others with balance issues are permitted to use a stool.

In W1 competition the compound bow is limited to a 45lb draw weight and the use of magnifying scopes and levelling bubbles in the sight are not permitted. However, these devices are permitted in the Compound open class and the draw weight is limited to 60 lbs..

Open recure archers shoot from 70 meters and open compound and W1 archers shoot from 50 meters.

Each event includes a ranking round where each archer shoots 72 arrows and their score is used to decide the pairings in the elimination rounds, shot head-to-head.

The winner in the open compound and W1 competition is the archer who scores the most points across five ends (sets) of three arrows each. The winner in the open recurve event is the first archer to score six points with two points given to the one who has the highest score in each set.  If scores are equal  in any set then each archer takes one point

For the team events, each team of three archers is ranked according to the combined scores achieved in the ranking round and elimination proceeds similarly to the individual rounds.
